Myofascial Release is an alternative medicine therapy that claims to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests like X-Rays, Myelograms, CAT Scans and Electromyography.
Myofascial Release, along with therapeutic exercise, and movement therapy improve the vertical alignment and lengthen the body, providing more space for the proper functioning of osseous structures, nerves, blood vessels and organs. If fascia has tightened and is creating symptoms distant from the injury, all of the appropriate localized treatments will produce poor or temporary results because the imbalance and excessive pressure from the Myofascial tightness remain untreated.
We use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy during our one-on-one therapy sessions. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.
Conditions treated by Myofascial Release Therapy include Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Migraine Headaches, Sciatica, Neck Injuries, Whiplash, Shoulder/Arm Pain, Backaches, Stiffness, Tightness, Lack of Flexibility, Chronic Fatigue and Menstrual problems.
