Manual lymphatic drainage massage therapy

MLD is a specialized gentle and non-invasive manual technique which uses light, rhythmic skin stretching and precise pressure, direction and speed of hand movements to encourage lymph flow. Lymph is a clear, colorless fluid containing white blood cells and cellular debris and is found in the interstitial space in the Lymphatic System. Lymph collects cellular waste and carries WBC through the lymphatic vessels into filtration ducts in preparation to enter the bloodstream.

The Lymphatic System can become blocked and cause tissue swelling when ducts are removed or damaged (such as in surgery). MLD stretches the subcutaneous tissue, encouraging lymph flow into healthy, unblocked pathway thereby improving fluid uptake and immune response.
